Blessed Sweetness: Learning to Make Herbal Honeys

Arts at the Armory,  Somerville, MA

Sure a spoonful of sugar may make the medicine go down,  but it is still not as good for you as honey! While honey is not only delicious, it makes for wonderful medicine.  Come explore the many benefits of honey, as well as learn about some of the different common varieties.  In this workshop you will learn to make infused honeys with both herbs and other culinary delights that are not just good, but good for you as well!

Trees make for great medicine, but there is more to trees in herbal medicine than just Elder, Hawthorn and Linden.

This workshop is an introduction to some of the herbal uses of the many trees available to us.  Hear about the variety of trees you can use with a special focus on the common local trees, as well as some of the not so common ones.   There will discussion of varied exotic trees from around the world that offer powerful healing properties as well.   Learn harvesting tips, where to buy and how best to work with them. 

Come and learn so you won’t end up “barking” up the wrong tree.

Boston Herbal Salon

Boston Herbal Salon is an informal monthly discussion/get together for herbalists (both current herbalists as well as those on that path) in the Boston area. It’s a chance to socialize and network a bit.

The theme for this first one is your favorite herbal book. So please bring a favorite herbal book to share with the group. No book report required – think more a fun show and tell as an ice breaker. 🙂

Please RSVP so I can get a head count and start to decide (depending on the weather) whether we’re doing this inside my place or in one of our two yards.

Just bring yourself and a favorite herbal book to share. Free free to bring a snack to share if you’re inspired but it is not required. I’ll be providing lots of herbal tea. 🙂

Trees make for great medicine, but there is more to trees in herbal medicine than just Elder, Hawthorn and Linden.  This workshop is an introduction to some of the herbal uses of our friends the trees – starting with just  ten of the many trees  available to us.  Hear about the varieties of common local trees, as well as some of the not so common ones.    Learn harvesting tips, where to buy and how best to work with them.

We herbalists all love spending time with our plants friends, but it can be just as much fun sharing that love with others. So come on out to the Boston Herbal Salon where you get that chance to meet and share that joyful celebration of our plant pals with those who feel just the same way. The Boston Herbal Salon is an informal discussion/get together for herbalists (both current herbalists as well as those on that path) in the Boston area. It’s a chance to socialize and network a bit with other herbalists.

Bring a favorite herbal recipe to share with the group or a good herbal story!

We’ll talk, laugh, share bodice ripping tales of forbidden plant love (well maybe not so true….) There will be teas, snacks, tinctures and more. But most of all fun!

This workshop covers some of the herbal uses of the many trees available to us as well as a friendly introduction to some of the fungi associated with particular trees. Explore the trees, fungi (including mushrooms and lichens) that you can use with a special focus on the more familiar ones in greater new England, as well as some of the exciting non-local ones. Learn harvesting tips, where to buy and how best to work with them.

Fungi: Friends, Foes and Frenemies

Learn about medicinal fungi and explore the marvels of the fungal world. While primarily aimed at medicinal mushrooms, we’ll also take a moment to consider fungi that tend to bully us rather than help and ideas of what to do when that happens. This is not an ID course but a gentle exploration of the healing fungi and best practices to work with them.

The Microbial Herbalist
Saturday – June 3, 2017 at 11 AM (Part of the Herbstalk Festival)

A gentle lay person introduction to the microbiome. With an eye toward seeing human health as an healthy ecosystem, we’ll look at some of the science and thinking about what it is and who we are. This will tie into exploration of what we as herbal healers can do nourish a balanced system and recover from an unbalanced one including looking at what practices and herbs are best for these purposes.
